Liberia, EU Hold 9th Political Dialogue in Monrovia

The Government of the Republic of Liberia and the European Union will on Friday, March 12, 2021 hold the 9th edition of the EU-Liberia Political Dialogue.

 The dialogue will be held under Article 8 of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the African Caribbean and Pacific states.

The 9th  EU-Liberia Political Dialogue will be co-chair by Foreign Affairs Minister H.E. Ambassador Dee- Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., and the Head of EU Delegation to Liberia, Ambassador Laurent Delahousse.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, both parties are expected to exchange views related to a number of themes to include Liberia’s Pro-Poor Agenda for Propensity and Development (PAPD), the state of the economy, Human Rights including sexual and gender-based violence; an enabling business and investment environment; good governance, accountability and transparency; future EU cooperation programming in line with the PAPD and the Cotonou Accord.

Members of the Liberian delegation expected to attend the dialogue include the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr. Samuel D. Tweah, Jr., Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs. Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr; Minister of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean; Minister of Agriculture, Jennie Cooper; Liberia Maritime Authority, Lenn Eugene Nagbe; Minister of Labor, Cllr. Charles Gibson among others.  

Representing the European Union will be Ambassador of Ireland, Lesley Ni Bhriain; Ambassador of Sweden, Ingrid Wetterqvist; Ambassadors of France, Michaël Roux, Germany, Ambassador Hubert Jäger, among others.

At the end of the dialogue, it is expected that both parties will reaffirm their support to a regular exchange of views and follow-up on the conclusion reached in the course of these regular political dialogue.  The parties will reaffirm their commitment to further strengthen their relationship.
