Brazilian Delegation Concludes Visit to Liberia

The Director of the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development, Mr. Clayton Campanihola, at the head of a 19-member high-powered Brazilian Government delegation has concluded a four-day visit to Liberia.

The delegation received a rousing welcome upon their arrival at the Airport and were greeted by officials of the Liberia Government, including Honorable Frederick B. Norkeh, Deputy Minister of Commence and Industry; Honourable Elisa Shoniyin, Assistant foreign Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Affairs and Ambassador Marcus Kofa, Assistant foreign Minister for American Affairs.

Members of the Brazilian Government delegation include representatives from the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, National Institute for Metrology, Standardization, Industrial Quality Control and the National Institute for Industrial Property.

The visit of Brazilian mission was quite important for the development of bilateral relations, Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Liberia and the Federal Republic of Brazil.

The focused areas of the discussions include Metrology and Standardization, Industrial Property, Capacity Building of Human Resources, Hydropower and Infrastructure, Agriculture Banking, Mining, Agriculture Research and Trade and Industry Policy, and Industrial development.

Discussions between members of the visiting Brazilian Government delegation and officials of the Liberian Government took place on Monday, June 14, 2010 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.     

    Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador William V. S. Bull, Sr, gives the welcome remarks, while the head of the Brazilian delegation, Mr. Campanhola, provided the overview of the mission to Liberia.

During the program, officials from five Ministries including the Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy, Honorable Eugene Shannon, and the Acting Minister of Commerce and Industry, Honorable Frederick B. Norkeh made a briefed presentation, with other presentations made by representatives from the Ministries of Planning and Economic Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Public Works. The presentations followed questions and answers.

Following the Program, the visiting delegation held Thematic Meetings with officials of the Ministries of land, Mines and Energy, Commerce and Industry, Agriculture, and Public Works, respectively.  

Meanwhile, on Wednesday the visiting Brazilian delegation undertook field visits before holding wrapped up Session at the Foreign Ministry.

On Wednesday, the Brazilian mission paid a courtesy visit on the President of the Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, followed which the mission departed the country on the same day.
