The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism,  Dr. Laurence Konmla Bropleh, says  Her Excellency President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has moved this country in the shortest period of time in three years from being a place where we were confused about the way forward to a place where peace and security is assured.

Addressing journalists last Thursday at the Ministry of Information on Capitol Hill, Minister Brobleh noted: We need to refrain from castigating the TRC and its members. This government will not tolerate threats and statements that can cause us digression and violence. See below for full text of the Ministerís statement.

PARTIAL REMARKS BY DR. LAURENCE KONMLA BROPLEH,
MINISTRY OF INFORMATION, CULTURE AND TOURISM AND SPOKEMAM
REPULBIC OF LIBERIA
AT HIS REGULAR PRESS BRIEFING
TUESDAY, JULY 9, 2009

Finally, let me say regarding the TRC report, we want to thank the TRC, three and half years of note-taking, statement taking, we believe that process was tedious to come up with report. What we need to be as Liberians, is forward thinking and conciliatory in our remarks, non-threatening in our statements. We need to look forward to a unified Liberia.

The report is quite voluminous, and is being meticulously read by President Sirleaf and many of us. We need to refrain from castigating the TRC and its members. This government will not tolerate threats and statements that can cause us digression and violence. President Sirleaf has moved this country in the shortest period of time in three years from being a place where we were confused about the way forward to a place where peace and security is assured.

Now, we can say that we are a better nation today with peace and security than we have ever been in our recent past, and our President, and this government will not stand to allow any individual or groups of individuals or any possibility for us to go backwards.

The Liberian people deserve the very best. That is why President Sirleaf does not rest content until she believes that our efforts are taking hold. Most of all, she has been a reconciler. It was that reconciliatory attitude that the Liberian people saw in her that propelled their wisdom to elect her President in 2005, by popular demand.

The Liberian people have reconciled with their President. She will continue to reconcile our nation, continue to create job opportunities for our young people, and continue to make sure that girls that are forgotten in our structure, our system and our society get decent education at all levels. Roads will continue to be built, health care delivery made possible, improved yielding from our soil a priority and the lost dignity of our people restored as President Sirleaf strives to make Liberia a Post-Conflict success story.

The TRC report is before is before the Liberian people-let us all remain calm and mature in our utterances. Reconciling our nation must be our collective vision and pragmatic goal. For such is President Sirleafís.
